Just an observation.....
Back when actors and actresses actually had talent, they were conscious of certain traits which helped amplify those talents. One of those traits is called common sense. Another is self-awareness.
You see, those we watch onscreen assume roles in an effort to convince us they're someone else. They're chameleons attempting to morph themselves into whatever character they've been cast to portray. The viewing public has to be able to look past the reality of who that person is, and instead see the fiction of who the person wants us to think they are.
Old school Hollywood understood this and sheltered as much of their personal lives as possible. It was this type of thinking which allowed someone like Paul Newman to be seen on the screen, not as himself, but as "Hud Bannon", "Luke", "Butch Cassidy" or "Henry Gondorrf", to name just a few.
However today's group seems to place greater importance into making every waking moment of their lives public which includes inserting themselves as experts regarding everyday situations and issuing statements informing the public how we should think about social and political issues. This hinders the ability to succeed in their profession of fooling us into thinking they're someone else.
Maybe I can help in the understanding of my point by having you ask yourself this question. Are there any actors or actresses, whom you used to enjoy watching, whom you now find yourself no longer interested in, not so much because they’ve lost their ability to act, but because you can't get past something they've either done or have said which you find unacceptable or disagree with? And consequently, because of this, you find yourself no longer watching movies or television shows in which they appear.
I wonder if these actors and actresses ever consider the negative monetary impact at the box office as a result of their public words and actions. How many theater seats will remain empty, as well as dvd's not purchased or rented, because these members of the "creative community" decide that they need to dictate to the people who make it possible for them to live their million dollar lifestyles that what they believe is correct and anyone who disagrees is not only wrong, but a menace to the society which they demand should exist in the manner they deem appropriate.
Of course, some of you won't agree with me. Hey, I'm used to that. Others will think what I'm saying has nothing to do with the price of a slice of pizza based on today's snowfall. I'm used to that as well.
What I do know is, the best Halloween costumes are the ones which manage to keep a person's real identity a secret, and are usually worn by those who speak as little as possible, lest you recognize who they really are by the sound of the voice and what's actually being said.
