His commentaries are one of the best. Haven't noticed any bitterness.

Yeah. He sounds pretty congenial in the Alien commentary. He seemed like he didn't really want to make a director's cut, but the studio kind of pushed him into it because they wanted it to help sell some DVDs. Wasn't really bitter about it, though.

Those sound awesome. Which one is the bitterest? Is it Kingdom of Heaven? It seems like he might have a lot of bones to pick there given the insane gulf between the original version and the director's cut.

Thanks!

His lack of Oscar is likely due to his stiff competition. The year he directed Blade Runner (he wasn't even nominated!) would have seen him go up against Gandhi, ET, and Das Boot. Alien was "vs" Kramer vs. Kramer and Apocalypse Now. His best shot might have been Gladiator, where the best director went to Soderburgh for Traffic, but even then, I did really appreciate Ang Lee's work on Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. After that, maybe Black Hawk Down, where he had the thinnest competition (they weren't going to give Jackson his trophy until number three...darn politics), but BHD wasn't Scott's finest work, either.

I could see him getting nominated for his upcoming film The Last Duel and getting awarded best director if there is no other deserving competition since it could be one of the last opportunities he has to win in his career given his age.
