Lynn was better, more natural. Vanessa is in her head.

never liked Vanessa's self-consciousness in her acting, like she's thinking about what she's going to say her next line or make a gesture.
I want to tell her to get on with it, that saying 'hello' doesn't take a memory exercise.

'It sounds to me as though your criticising Vanessa for adding more depth and layers to a simple word like 'Hello'
----------
No, I am criticising the act of adding more layers and depth when it doesn't fit within reality. When you say 'excuse me" to the person in the supermarket, do you give it prior analysis, subtext, and complexity, or do the words naturally come out?
Giving more depth and layers when it's uncalled for is not genius-like,it's giving more depth and layers that are uncalled for.

We don't always need every word in every sentence to have meanings and shadings because that would be "acting", not being. Also, what's up with the genius-word? If I am good at wood-craftsmanship,am I a 'genius', or good at wood-craftsmanship?

Did I so-call "trash" her, and "sadden" things, or is that the typical extreme reflex catch-phase? When you tell your mom you dislike her chicken casserole, are you trashing her? Is Redgrave immune to criticism? Tossing the word "trash" around is not wise, nor warranted-- especially when you say 'everyone is entitled to their opinion' in the previous sentence.

And are seriously going to use awards as a reference? If it was a case of an actor you thought was undeserving of an award , you'd say it was a 'popularity contest'.
..Give what I just said some layers and depth

Both sisters are wonderful actors but Vanessa was more successful in both stage and films whilst Lynne did focus more on her family at one time.

Well-expressed, mk k6! The OP seemed cruel in posting such criticisms on Vanessa's board, no less within months of Lynn's death. Vanessa and Lynn blessed us all with their incredible talents, but they were different entities with different styles. Pitting sisters against each other seems ridiculous; it's incredibly juvenile to make such comparisons. If the OP feels that way, fine, but why post such snarky comments on Vanessa's board? I had the supreme bliss of seeing Vanessa work with Eileen Atkins in Vita and Virginia, and those were some of the finest hours I've spent in the theatre. Those two played off of each other brilliantly. I've seen Alan Bates, Ralph Fiennes, Ian McDarmid, Janet McTeer, Francesca Annis, Patrick Stewart, Frank Langella and countless other marvelous performers on and off Broadway, but Vanessa proved absolutely magical. We met her on the street before the performance, and she could not have been more gracious and humble. I've always seen Vanessa as intuitive, as well as intelligent. I never tire of watching her in Howards End, Wilde, A Month by the Lake, Mrs. Dalloway, Blowup and Julia.
