For me it was his voice - I thought he was attractive in the trailers and clips for Something Wicked This Way Comes but I didn't see the movie - however, I went with my roommate to see Jumpin' Jack Flash and I thought he had a really great voice BUT it wasn't until he finally appeared at the end that I fell off my chair, grabbing my roommate's arm and cutting off her circulation, and I was a goner. It was his gentle eyes that did me in and I've been a fan ever since. I ended up backtracking through SWTWC, Brazil and The Ploughman's Lunch among others and I have not been disappointed by his performance yet!
I was lucky enough to meet him in NYC when he was rehearsing for Miss Saigon in NY. It was Valentine's Day and my roommate and I decided to go see the opening of The Silence of the Lambs since we were both boyfriendless at the time and it seemed perfect for our mood(!) As we were walking out of the movie theatre my roommate grabbed my arm - cutting off my circulation and pointed out Jonathan Pryce leaving the theatre just a little bit a head of us! I'm nearsighted so I hadn't noticed but fortunately my roommate had 'graciously' ended up watching the Jonathan Pryce filmography with me over time so she knew his face very well too!
He was with a few people who then stood outside the theatre discussing their plans for dinner while I tried to subtlely work up the nerve from several feet away to ask his autograph. I don't think I was as subtle as I wanted to be because when the group started to walk past me he sort of hung back just enough that he was alone as he passed me and I managed to meekly say his name and ask for his autograph. He was so sweet and even talked a bit about the movie we had both seen and then I wished him luck on Broadway and thanked him for his autograph. Truely a lovely man!
P.S. I like to tease and say I saw Silence of the Lambs with Jonathan Pryce now!
