To answer your question Mel Gibson has burned a lot of bridges and I'm assuming he became increasingly difficult to work with. That's my guess because Woody Allen,Roman Polanski,Mike Tyson,and Chris Brown still have careers after the things they've done or what they've been accused of doing.

Difference is Gibson is a vocal conservative. Had he been part of the Hollywood clique, his mistakes would likely have been more tolerated.

Gibson has been in Hollywood for years. People know he's a devout catholic and conservative. In my opinion his politics have nothing to do with it.

I don't like Madonna but I find it shocking that her then Husband would actually think it's right tying his wife to a chair and torture her for 9 hours! he has always been a mean-spirited jerk and from what I've heard over the years about him, something of a bully as a kid. I can't believe Charilze Theron would actually marry this jerk!

Untrue. Gibson has:
- a very rich and long history of homophobic behaviour
- been known to be very conservative and Traditionalist Catholic (rejects Vatican II)
- a very vocal father who's famous for making very antisemitic comments, which Gibson refuses to distance himself from.
Yet none of that kept him from becoming a superstar in the 80's and remain one up to 2005.
That drunken tirade was simply the last straw in a long string of incidents. He's had many chances (of people taking his comments and actions as misunderstandings/one time thing/mistakes/etc), people simply had enough and realized the guy IS indeed a hate-filled racist/misogynyst/homophobe.
