Why don't people like him?
I'm oblivious to all the hate.
Is there anything concrete that he did/said that's not rumor?

In person he expects deference. But I suppose that comes with super stardom.
He just comes across as arrogant, pretentious, overly-serious and has an over-inflated sense of self-importance. Just one of many examples was his speech at the Oscars the year Chris Rock hosted. Instead of just rolling with the joke Chris made about Jude Law, which was all in good fun, Sean "Mr. Serious Thespian" Penn felt the need to get up there and defend Jude Law and castigate the joke (and the host). Hey SPICOLI......lighten the eff up. Try renting a sense of humor and smiling once in a while. You're not that wonderful of a thespian.....or a person. In fact, you're a one-note actor who thinks the height of acting is affecting a slight southern accent and being overly-serious. (Hint: ANYONE can do that)
