Could an actor’s career survive Rob Lowe’s 1988 scandal today?

Assuming that a modern actor avoided arrest for engaging in statutory rape, would his or her career be severely damaged and would they almost be dropped from whatever films or television series which they were involved in at the time? Even if they weren't convicted, would they never again have a starring role in anything other than streaming or straight-to-DVD fare; and would television be out of the question?

I doubt they would ever work again. Look at Chris noth- he's been dropped from everything but not found guilty of anything.

Lowe did meet her in a nightclub where I would assume you'd need to prove age to enter. He probably just assumed she was old enough and too drunk or high to question her further.
