Carrie Fisher on why Star Wars was 'low-budget'

BBC News https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDao_uies4Q

On this Star Wars Day, we're revisiting a funny and frank BBC archive interview with Carrie Fisher, aka Princess Leia, from a long time ago… in 1977.

It was a role that would make Carrie Fisher one of the most famous faces on the planet.

reply

I see a lot of people on here being critical of present day actresses like Sydney Sweeney. I think the difference comes down to charisma.

Carrie doesn't have a perfect face or statuesque body, but she does have an interesting and down to earth aura, and this shines through in her roles. Today's actresses just don't have this quality, it's a gift.

reply

Maybe by statuesque you mean chiselled? Carrie Fisher was immensely beautiful in the 70s.

reply

Yes, Carrie was beautiful, but she was not an Ann Margret/Sharon Stone-type bombshell. Her personality however made her 100 times more interesting than them & most other actresses, whether in her films or anytime she was interviewed.

reply

Wait, Sharon Stone is statuesque? I don't know, for now I can't remember her type being repeatedly immortalised in Flemish art or Italian, er, statues. Maybe you need to actually see some skin to judge who is what type. I can undress someone with my eyes, but with great power, blah blah blah.

reply

Well I recommend you start with the holy Sharon trinity of Basic Instinct, Sliver and The Specialist. From those movies you can see she's tall with blonde hair, long legs and a round arse. I thought that's what statuesque meant? My bad.

reply

Brigitte Nielsen is statuesque. Sharon Stone's appeal comes from 2 bottles. The dye, and whatever you're drinking.

reply

Bridget Nielsen is a 6ft amazon brick shithouse. Stallone looked like a midget next to her.

Sharon Stone's appeal was that she was a sexual firestorm who lit up every film from Total Recall onwards. More than hair dye - that's talent, charisma, face, body, everything.

reply

I don't know what prompted you to use Stallone as a pawn in this little chat.

If Stone was a sexual firestorm, then it must be partly due to the lines she spoke, and the nudity, the posture...maybe a mimicry of sorts? I'd hate to call it talent.

Enjoy your Sharon Stone movies.

reply

Good interview, but the youtube title is clickbait since she didn't say it was low-budget.

Star Wars was far ahead of its time including Leia.

reply

I remember her saying in London (2016) at the Star Wars celebration: " I am Leia and Leia its me ".
