Why does Fincher do 90 takes for every scene?
I can understand getting things right, but how does he ever finish a movie within 3 months?
Is he ever worried about running out of film?
I know Judd Apotow uses a lot of film for out-takes and improv, but Fincher just does the same scene over and over again.
I'm sure Ben Affleck loved doing his scene touching the naked Emily for 90 takes.
He only shoots digitally, ever since Zodiac. This way you can shoot countless of takes without even using a single film frame lol cuz digital
idk, I prefer the look of his films before Zodiac.
I get why he wants to do quite some takes, but anything above 10 or 20 is unnecessary imo. I mean sure he probably has his reasons but after X takes I don't think anything changes anymore. He once said that after a couple of takes the acting is more natural but he does make actors perform in a way he wants, not giving them a whole lot of freedom. Which is why actors like Gyllenhaal and Downey Jr don't want to work with him again. I bet working with him can be stressful but at the end of the day, shooting the film is over and he does make good films if not great ones.
War, what is it good for?
If that's true then he's a poor director, in my opinion. Directors like Kubrick who need 100 takes are just taking the piss.

shareI agree with the view that it's more about him than making the movie better. I'm inclined to say he's an arrogant control freak. I also suspect that it's about fostering mystique. Oddly, this could, in the long run, make his movies better by attracting talent. It's not necessarily a bad thing to be known as eccentric and exacting -- until your pictures stop generating praise or money. Look a the Fincher fan boys. All of that said, I think he's a remarkable talent. His movies are always praised for their cinematography, but they also have superb sound design.
