I think he would probably have made a better, more intense Aragorn than Viggo Mortenson. I'm guessing that's the part he was up for in LOTR.

I think your right but Viggo was very good and maybe Daniel would have taken something away from the other actors and made it indirectly more about him rather than the collaboration and story being told

Yes. He would have outgunned almost everyone else in the cast. Viggo's talents were more in line with the others and made a better blend.

Glad that Gary Oldman took 'Sid & Nancy', to be honest. He was uncanny in that film.

It's a shame Oldman and DDL never stood eye-to-eye on film. They were set to be co-leads in 'Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead' (1990) but DDL backed out due to burnout. Tim Roth took the role.
