Michael's top ten performances?

Over the years Michael has given many superb performances. In which ten films do you think he gives his best performances? For me it's the following.

Shiner
Get Carter
Educating Rita
The Statement
Zulu
Jack the Ripper (TV miniseries)
The Muppet Christmas Carol
The Ipcress File
The Quiet American
The Cider House Rules

I think he was also fantastic as the loyal Alfred in the Christopher Nolan Batman films.

Go to bed Frank or this is going to get ugly .

1. The Quiet American
2. Get Carter
3. The Man Who Would Be King
4. A Shock to the System
5. Dressed to Kill
6. Alfie
7. Hannah and Her Sisters
8. Last Orders
9. Mona Lisa
10. The Cider House Rules

hon. mention - and a favourite guilty pleasure - his deliciously camp performance in Sweet Liberty.

Why not just say the best movies Michael Caine was in?

reply

Because this isn't about these movies as a whole, just Michael Caine's specific role in them. The movie itself could have been terrible, while Caine's performance in a secondary role was great.

reply

OK, if you say so, but I think if the movie is lousy the role doesn't matter.

Imagine that his Alfred in the Dark Knight trilogy was actually a more mature, grown up version of his depiction of Alfie the chauffeur.
