The last film of his that I saw was Dark Shadows. It was middling. Amusing at times, but kinda flat - criminally so given the setting and subject matter. That movie could have failed in a lot of directions; dull should not have been one of them.

But before that was Alice in Wonderland, and I know it's flawed, but overall I liked it. Mia Wasikowska does a good performance, the who's-who in Burton supporting cast are delightful, and I thought the action-fantasy take was great. I'm a big fan of the Alice books and the movie is NOTHING like the books, but I didn't want them to be; it's a Tim Burton film. You pays your two bits and you gets a Tim Burton movie. If you complain that he "Burtonized" it, why did you watch the movie?

And I basically have enjoyed the rest of his filmography. Haven't seen Mars Attacks! or Planet of the Apes, and he's got some better (Edward Scissorhands) and some worse (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) but I don't regret watching them.

His best movie is Ed Wood. His Batman films are my favourite Gotham adventures. And who doesn't love a little Beetlejuice?
