What's his least stylized film?

Tim Burton is known for his unique visual style. Has he ever made a "straight" movie?

His 2001 remake of Planet of the Apes was pretty much just a straight up action film. Not many Burtonesque flourishes in that one.

Planet of the Apes is one that springs to mind. If I didn't know it was Burton who had directed it beforehand I probably wouldn't have guessed, based on the style and look. Helena Bonham Carter being in it is about the only thing that would give a clue.

big fish

I haven't seen it in more than a decade but I do remember some fantasy sequences.

Strongly disagree. This movie is full of fantasy elements. It is excellent though.

I think they all have something "Burton" about them, more or less, and I think that's a great thing. I don't need another milquetoast director. I need something more interesting. Burton always delivers that. It can get a bit overindulgent sometimes, but it's the same risk run by seeing a Wes Anderson movie (for instance).

For least-stylized, I think Big Fish is it. I haven't seen Planet of the Apes (so I differ to those who have seen both), but Big Fish is more about the drama and the family than about the bizarre. It also has fantastic elements, but they aren't always "Burton fantasy". The sleepy village, for instance, has a touch of his uncanny suburbs thing, but mostly it just looks like a tall tale world. The exception is the Witch, who does look a bit more Burton.

Edit: I thought about it a bit, and I might consider Ed Wood. It's in black and white and it has the coffin opening/closing, but mostly it's just a biopic with an odd tinge. I don't remember it being really stylized, other than some of the sets and things, but that's Ed Wood, not Tim Burton.
