Doesn't matter why...why did he point it at somebody else and pull the trigger?
shareExactly. The only time a gun should be pointed at someone is to shoot to kill. Hollywood actors and stunt men never point a gun directly at someone, even if it's loaded with blanks. Camera angles take care of the discrepancies.
sharei wondered that too..
wtf isn't the cinematographer feet away from the "action"
Yup.
share
My best guess is that the POV must have been his character firing straight into the camera.
Very good point, I didn't think of that.
shareMakes sense. And he would most likely be pointing slightly off center of the lens which is where a DP would be. Tragic
shareWhy would the DP stand there and operate manually for such a shot. Far safer to look at VTO and operate off to one side? Even start the camera turning over and step away. How did they both get shot?? Every set I've ever been on, guns are treated with great respect, 1st AD checking all the time, Armourer team taking charge of guns between takes . . . . something very wrong here
shareAs much as I can't stand Alec Baldwin, this seems to me to be a pure accident and screw-up of major proportions.

Yes, it would seem prudent that they start the camera rolling and get out of the line of fire but they didn't. Most likely, this will be a new rule if it's not a rule now.
You and your logic!
share"The union says the props department was staffed with local New Mexican crew, and not Hollywood pros "
So underpaid Mexican labourers were in charge of the props? The results don't surprise me.
I bet they are working hard to come up with a story on this that smooths things over the best they can be.
shareMEXICAN FILM CREW BECOMES UNDERPAID MEXICAN LABOURERS IN YOUR TWISTED BRAIN.
shareIt's not even that, it's New Mexico, so it's still a state. I mean, it's conceivable that there were Mexican citizens in the mix, but there's a big difference between "Mexican" and "New Mexican".
shareLMAO...THAT IS HILARIOUS.
shareNo, what's HILARIOUS, and I've MADE THIS COMMENT BEFORE, it that you're able to get the Internet on your MAINFRAME computer that only types in ALL CAPS.
shareNO...THAT IS NOT HILARIOUS...IT IS REPETIIVE AND REDUNDANT...INCORRECT AS WELL...MY PC IS ABOUT 2 YEARS OLD AND types just fine...IT IS ME WHO PREFERS THE CAPS...GOBACK TO YOUR TIKTOK VIDEOS.
shareSo we don't know if the blame or the legal repercussions belong to Baldwin, or the people who loaded the gun with blanks.
If this quote is for real, which I doubt at this point, then they're going to try to place the blame on the schmucks who put the blanks in the gun. Which may be what the filmmaking Powers That Be see as the easy out, even if Baldwin was behaving irresponsibly, they'd rather throw some unknown "Mexican" under the bus than try to pin it on a star who can afford lawyers and publicists.
I guess you never worked on a film set. It IS the responsibility of the people who loaded the gun! That's their job! Apparently they failed at providing the safe environment to work in that they were hired to do.
shareWe still don't know if the gun was loaded with real bullets or blanks, because blanks fired at close range can kill. If the gun was loaded with real bullets than the people in the prop department are liable, even if Baldwin was behaving irresponsibly, and if it was loaded with blanks then Baldwin is probably to blame for everything.
But at this point we don't know either way, as far as I know no details have been released, and the odds that we'll hear anything accurate are low. So there's no information from the scene of the disaster, the movie studio isn't going to release any until the lawyers and spin doctors have agreed on the most harmless thing to say, and the standards of accuracy in "entertainment journalism" are pathetic. So we probably won't find out what really happened until people are put under oath at whatever trials and lawsuits ensue, if then.
Reportedly a single live round. That one round killed one person and injured another. It would be hard to believe that a blank could do that kind of damage to two people unless they were literally inches apart, and even then it seems impossible.
Reported by whom? Has there been any kind of inside info, or official statement?
Frankly, I don't think we're going to get any reliable news on this until the local DA decides to file charges against someone, and that's going to be weeks or months. Nobody's going to make a move in a high-profile case like this one, without a hell of a lot of evidence.

Yeah, blame it on them goddarn Mexicanos!!!
