'WHY WAS I HANDED A HOT GUN?!'

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-10118665/Rust-movie-set-starring-Alec-Baldwin-LOCKED-New-Mexico.html

Man I can just hear him screaming that in that distinctive voice of his. damn

reply

Doesn't matter why...why did he point it at somebody else and pull the trigger?

reply

Exactly. The only time a gun should be pointed at someone is to shoot to kill. Hollywood actors and stunt men never point a gun directly at someone, even if it's loaded with blanks. Camera angles take care of the discrepancies.

reply

i wondered that too..

wtf isn't the cinematographer feet away from the "action"

reply

Yup.

reply

My best guess is that the POV must have been his character firing straight into the camera.

reply

Very good point, I didn't think of that.

reply

Makes sense. And he would most likely be pointing slightly off center of the lens which is where a DP would be. Tragic

reply

Why would the DP stand there and operate manually for such a shot. Far safer to look at VTO and operate off to one side? Even start the camera turning over and step away. How did they both get shot?? Every set I've ever been on, guns are treated with great respect, 1st AD checking all the time, Armourer team taking charge of guns between takes . . . . something very wrong here

reply

As much as I can't stand Alec Baldwin, this seems to me to be a pure accident and screw-up of major proportions.

Why would the DP stand there and operate manually for such a shot. Far safer to look at VTO and operate off to one side?

Yes, it would seem prudent that they start the camera rolling and get out of the line of fire but they didn't. Most likely, this will be a new rule if it's not a rule now.

There must be a gun wrangler on set .. he/she should open the weapon, inspect the barrel and the ammunition, and hand it to the actor immediately before every take. Two or more takes? Then the wrangler should reinspect the weapon and hand it to the actor immediately before the take and every subsequent take. Every. Time. If that's not a rule now, it should be.

Unbelievable if it's not already!

reply

You and your logic!

reply

"The union says the props department was staffed with local New Mexican crew, and not Hollywood pros "

So underpaid Mexican labourers were in charge of the props? The results don't surprise me.

reply

I bet they are working hard to come up with a story on this that smooths things over the best they can be.

reply

MEXICAN FILM CREW BECOMES UNDERPAID MEXICAN LABOURERS IN YOUR TWISTED BRAIN.

reply

It's not even that, it's New Mexico, so it's still a state. I mean, it's conceivable that there were Mexican citizens in the mix, but there's a big difference between "Mexican" and "New Mexican".

reply

LMAO...THAT IS HILARIOUS.

reply

No, what's HILARIOUS, and I've MADE THIS COMMENT BEFORE, it that you're able to get the Internet on your MAINFRAME computer that only types in ALL CAPS.

reply

NO...THAT IS NOT HILARIOUS...IT IS REPETIIVE AND REDUNDANT...INCORRECT AS WELL...MY PC IS ABOUT 2 YEARS OLD AND types just fine...IT IS ME WHO PREFERS THE CAPS...GOBACK TO YOUR TIKTOK VIDEOS.

reply

IF IT "types just fine", then why do you choose to type in the ridiculous and 1980-looking ALL CAPS? Or is that just your NAMESAKE and STYLE? Whichever the case, it looks STUPID.

reply

COMING FROM A GUY NAMED DAVEBUFFALO,STUPID SOUNDS PREETY COMPLIMENTARY.

reply

So we don't know if the blame or the legal repercussions belong to Baldwin, or the people who loaded the gun with blanks.

If this quote is for real, which I doubt at this point, then they're going to try to place the blame on the schmucks who put the blanks in the gun. Which may be what the filmmaking Powers That Be see as the easy out, even if Baldwin was behaving irresponsibly, they'd rather throw some unknown "Mexican" under the bus than try to pin it on a star who can afford lawyers and publicists.

reply

I guess you never worked on a film set. It IS the responsibility of the people who loaded the gun! That's their job! Apparently they failed at providing the safe environment to work in that they were hired to do.

reply

We still don't know if the gun was loaded with real bullets or blanks, because blanks fired at close range can kill. If the gun was loaded with real bullets than the people in the prop department are liable, even if Baldwin was behaving irresponsibly, and if it was loaded with blanks then Baldwin is probably to blame for everything.

But at this point we don't know either way, as far as I know no details have been released, and the odds that we'll hear anything accurate are low. So there's no information from the scene of the disaster, the movie studio isn't going to release any until the lawyers and spin doctors have agreed on the most harmless thing to say, and the standards of accuracy in "entertainment journalism" are pathetic. So we probably won't find out what really happened until people are put under oath at whatever trials and lawsuits ensue, if then.

reply

Reportedly a single live round. That one round killed one person and injured another. It would be hard to believe that a blank could do that kind of damage to two people unless they were literally inches apart, and even then it seems impossible.

reply

Reported by whom? Has there been any kind of inside info, or official statement?

Frankly, I don't think we're going to get any reliable news on this until the local DA decides to file charges against someone, and that's going to be weeks or months. Nobody's going to make a move in a high-profile case like this one, without a hell of a lot of evidence.

Alec Baldwin fired a single shot that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and went on to hit director Joel Souza, an eyewitess told Showbiz411.

The fatal bullet passed through Ms Hutchins’ body and hit Mr Souza’s clavicle, between the sternum and shoulder, the witness said.

Prop gun used in fatal shooting had a ‘single live round’, union says
A prop gun that Alec Baldwin fired on the set of the movie Rust, which killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and wounded director Joel Souza, contained a “live single round”, a film union says.

“Unfortunately, we lost Sister Hutchins who passed from the wound,” the IATSE’s Local 44 union told members in an email.
