She HAS aged - and yet she is still BEAUTIFUL!

I just saw Indy4.

I was struck that it was clear, on the giant screen, that Karen Allen HAD aged a lot; but it doesn't look bad on her! Unlike those horrible plastic, waxy women with excessive plastic surgery who look inhuman, Karen looked like a genuinely sexy middle-aged woman!

All too often, our society equates "youth" with "beauty" when it comes to women. Here is an example of how a woman can have the signs of age and still be very beautiful. She's not beautiful because she has no wrinkles; she's beautiful because what wrinkles and signs of age she has, have not destroyed what is beautiful in her face.

Those eyes and that smile shine through. Plus her hair is lovely; even though I'm sure it's colored. At least it's thick and wavy.

More women in Hollywood should learn from Karen Allen. A beautiful woman who ages naturally is almost invariably superior to those who decide to look like a slightly melted wax parody of their former selves.

She's still so beautiful. Her eyes and smile are breathtaking, and that's something she'll never lose (well, unless some animal eats her eyes or something).

And her character incorporates pretty much every quality I like in a woman ;-)

Indeed.

However I'm concerned after seeing her on Leno tonight.

She looks like she had something done to her face, which is sad, since I was considering her an example of how beautifully a woman can age naturally.

She said she had been ill so maybe she was on some medication which made her face look tight and puffy. I hope so. I would hate to think that after filming she resorted to some of that absurdly unnatural surgery or botox which is far too common in Hollywood.

Why would she have something done AFTER Indy4 and not BEFORE??? Makes no sense. I don't think because of one film that wasn't any great acting tour de force that she needs to spruce up her looks for the flood of offers coming her way...

Hmmmm, someone else saw her on Leno, in HD besides, and thought she looked naturally great:

Yeah, she looks great! I just saw her on Jay Leno in HD, and she looks so beautiful! Not fake botox beautiful, natural beautiful.

Comments, perhaps? You never know what triggers someone to get surgery; although I would agree, it would be illogical. Anyway, I'm not saying she certainly did. In fact I hope not. It may just be whatever she was ill with on Leno had her a tad puffy.

All things relative. Karen certainly looked more natural than most of the 50-something actresses, no matter what. I just noticed a DIFFERENCE between how she looked in Indy4 and Leno, which I saw, in HD, only a short while later.

I surely hope she continues to be natural and has had nothing done. I was incredibly impressed with her in the movie and it reminded me how a woman CAN be in her 50s if she doesn't try to look 35.

I would even like to see her let a little of her natural grey enter her hair (it's almost certain she has at least some). I think it would look nice. Well, as long as she never does the bleached-and-dyed "fake blonde" thing LOL!

Well I certainly wasn't impressed by her in the movie whether you meant her acting or her looks. I mean she looks fine for a woman her age, she has a nice smile but really, for most people who know her from just two films made decades ago, Animal House and especially Raiders, she proved the adage you can't go home again (well at her expense by Lucas and Spielberg). That wasn't anything like Marion from long ago just a shadow. Just because she has apparently forgone plastic surgery or whatever doesn't cover a lost ability to act albeit with a poor script/role!

reply

Well, I was referring to her LOOKS, not her acting ability. She is not what she was and maybe part of her mistake is trying to be the "same".

My comment simply was to acknowledge someone who had foregone plastic surgery, at least at that juncture, and looked beautiful, despite not looking "young".

I felt it was apropos to point out that sometimes a woman can be beautiful even if she looks in her 50s, as long as her features are beautiful. It's not always a matter of looking "young". Karen no longer looks 30. She looks 50-something. But she still retains some vestage of female beauty, unlike many of the 50-something plastic fakers out there.
