So sick of youth worshippers

Youth is wasted on the wrong people. And I'm tired of this culural tail spin that worships it. I say we revolt and spend our entertainment dollars on something else. Like more interesting, wiser, more aged characters.

Viva the grey hairs and wrinkles! That's an interesting face.

I was so happy to see Marion back in Indy's arms. She was a revelation in the first movie, and the beginning of strong women heroines in action pics in America, in my opinion, in my life anyway.

But I was dissapointed by the script. Too much Mutt, too little Marion. Going for that young demographic again. And what was with that blow dried D.A.? All wrong. A real D.A. uses grease. LOL.

I loved that they brought Karen back, but they needed a storyline that focused on Harrison and Karen just like the first one.

Hollywood DOES have a problem with age. It's why women over 40 have a hard time getting roles. Karen even said in an interview that producers were looking for the younger her. I'm like, hello??? People do age. I'm really hoping that if an Indy 5 is created, that they do give Karen a larger role. She's so underused, and it's sad.

Oh agreed. And check out Debra Winger in "Rachel Gets Married." She does a fantastic job with a supporting role. I'd love to see her more.

There are not roles for women over 40, it is so true. Movies with them in lead roles don't have the great sales demographic that say a slasher movie has. How sad and pathetic for our country.

I agree that it was nice that they brought her back but unfortunately didn't use her well. What's even sadder is she should have been back in the earlier sequels rather than Capshaw and the other actress who was so memorable I don't have a clue what her name is! I disagree though with Popula that Allen's Marion was really some sort of breakthrough strong modern heroine- sure she could pound down a lot of liqueur, talk tough and was spunky but in reality she was/acted more like the traditional damsel in distress than one would think. Of course compared to Kate Capshaw's horrible damsel in distress turn in "Temple of Doom" Allen was an Amazonian Warrior Queen Animal! A better example to me of a modern female character that could take care of herself was Sigourney Weaver's Ripley in "Alien" that came out a couple years before "Raiders".

Definitely Hollywood has issues with age- it's getting a little better than it used to be for older actresses but compared to the British and Europeans they are light years behind.

Without a doubt Allen and her huge contribution to the success of "Raiders of the Lost Ark" was totally undervalued. I realize that Spielberg and Lucas had purportedly planned on using different lead actresses opposite Ford in future sequels, like the "Bond Girls" were used in the 007 franchise but still the same those plans could have been changed once they saw how huge a hit they had on their hands with "Raiders". I remember how puzzled many fans were when Allen wasn't re-upped for the next one. Well anyway even though "Temple of Doom" did well at the box-office in the long run they sure messed up a good thing by not using Allen.

I agree. Out of the four films I liked all of them except Temple of Doom. Kate was no Karen. I did like Short Round and thought it would have been better if it was just Indy and Short Round. I think that Karen should have been used at least for the first two and then the fourth one. My dislike for TOD had a lot to do that Kate Capshaw's character was whiny and constantly screaming her head off, whereas Karen as Marion, Marion emulated a lot of Karen in the fact that she was strong willed, and self sufficient.

I just hope they don't make any new Indy films period.

Yep they waited way too long between the 3rd and 4th one just like the Star Wars movies and the magic was gone. Quit while you're ahead.

One of my favourite lyrics is "Youth is wasted on the Young" from Robbie's Eternity.

Hey one of my favorite lines is "youth is wasted on the young" but from a slightly older source- It's a Wonderful Life (1946) muttered by the older neighbor on the porch about Jimmy Stewart (with Donna Reed) nearby. This after yelling at him "why don't you just kiss her instead of talking her to death!
