I was thinking that Milla Jovovich, who seemed a "poor man's Brooke" in "Return to the Blue Lagoon" had a much more successful career than Brooke.
I was wondering why Brooke's career went so terribly downwards... she looked like the hottest new thing in the early 80's, and yet her career, at some point was like a total failure.
I wonder why?
Yea, I didn't know that either. I think she has done very well and let's face it, she may not have wanted to be so famous anymore. We grew up in the same generation and as far as I know she was of the mindset like Jody Foster where she acted and modeled, but then went to college and thought she would go on to do other things. She has been great as far as the parts and roles she has wanted and she is doing what she wants to do without any pressure from her mom. She seems very happy and I say good for her.

Brooke Shields was a teenage phenomenon and well on her way to A-list super stardom. By the time she was 18, everyone thought she would become a great leading movie star. But then she decided to suspend her career in movies and modeling and attend Princeton University to obtain a college degree beginning in 1983.
At the time, many critics felt that her ongoing career would lose momentum and she would not be able to recover. When she once again returned to acting after getting her degree about 7 and 8 years later, she was only offered minor roles. Her popularity, as critics prophetized, had waned and she never recovered.

It’s difficult to explain to people who have grown up knowing only the Internet as a source of fame just how popular Shields was at the height of her career. Basically she could have done ANYTHING that she wanted to at that time as she was on dozens of magazines covers and basically every talk show that appeared on television. Arguably her popularity rivaled that of Ronald Reagan, the president, and Michael Jackson. However she seems to have squandered it, along with not making money from he projects.
Here's the reason: Milla Jovovich can act. Brooke Shields can not.
