Overrated?
YES! His last good movie was taxi driver
shareNope
shareThis scumbag is back trolling screw you clown
sharehey relax, its not my fault you have no taste, and have the IQ of a hamster on crack, good for you
shareAccording to you, Goodfellas, Raging Bull, and The Departed are bad movies so screw off trolling scumbag
sharewhy are you insulting me? you need therapy dude, but im afraid you are a lost case you are defending ideas and ideals that are as shallow as your personality.
shareKeep on trolling people like you are why IMDB shut the boards down
shareimdb boards were shut down because of greedy corporations. people like you are the reason we keep getting shitty movies for years because you have no standards and will like anything the mainstream media puts out without questioning them. you are lowering the IQ of cinema. everything you don't understand is trolling. you dumb bro.
shareYou have a point. But it is the greedy corporations who first lowered the movies' standards...by destroying the screenwriting talent available in Hollywood and relying on hacks for their blockbusters, just to cut costs. Not so creative accounting from these much richer but still dumbass Movie Moghuls.
sharevery good point. agreed
shareNo. The Irishman, Silence, Hugo, The Departed, and Gangs of New York were all excellent.
shareI re-watched Gangs of New York and I have to disagree. The movie looks great and has sime amazing performances. The failure was in casting Leonardo DiCaprio and Cameron Diaz as the leads. They were overshadowed by the rest of the cast. They just didn't match the quality in acting. Both have talent, but this wasn't the best movie for them.
shareWell if you thought the movie looked great, then the Director did his job well.
shareThe director is also responsible for casting and performances, at least to some extent. Obviously there are producers and casting agents, and the actors are the people responsible for their performances, but the director has a large hand in both areas, too.
All that said, I LOVE Gangs of New York and I don't consider either DiCaprio or Diaz as mistakes there.
Then why are you responding for them?
shareYes, very. I liked a few of his films, but not my type of thing in general.
shareyep
shareNo. This is a director who has stood the test of time through multiple decades. Even if you personally haven't liked a film of his since the 70's, the consensus is that he has made many, at a high quality, and is just as relevant now as he was in the 70's. To be at the top of your game for so long in any field is very admirable.
shareDon't forget that he had a lot of stiff competition from other great directors. Some directors do a couple great movies and fade into obscurity. Scorsese didn't.
shareProbably not, he's just not making movies I'm interested in. My favourites are The King of Comedy and After Hours, I'm not into his gangster movies.
