Was it really far-fetched on Natalie's part to suggest that Star Wars almost derailed her career?
To quote some folks on AV Club:

Natalie’s statements about her career nearly tanking always seemed off to me. She was a child/teen actor at a time when TV wasn’t prestigious and she never did kid movies which means she only got work whenever a film director needed an uncommonly beautiful child for a symbolic role. At the time of the prequels she had only done eight or nine films. She didn’t really have a career trajectory at that point. And I don’t buy that Garden State was the only indie role offered to her in the aftermath. I think she mostly just got good reviews for Garden State and decided to create a narrative that it was the “real” beginning of her career.
