So all the directors nominees were male
So fucking what bitch, when will you address all the rapists and child molesters YOU loved to work with?
shareSo fucking what bitch, when will you address all the rapists and child molesters YOU loved to work with?
shareWhat I hated about her saying it the most was that she essentially said at least one of those director's should not have been there because a nameless female director who did great work should have been there. "Which one didn't deserve it shall remain nameless, but just so you know, I think at least one of you didn't deserve it."
sharewow she SAID THAT???? This is completely out of control.
shareShe didn't say it but she said "here are all the male nominees" when presenting the award implying that there had to at least be one or two people she felt didn't deserve to be there. A lot of women are criticizing her though calling it "man-bashing."
shareoh ok, yes it was awful and the implications were awful too.
shareThis is how it was with the oscar so white nonsense. The amount of movies released that qualify for awards here are going to be mostly directed by men and mostly starring white males. Even today when you have more acceptance, you only have so many women even interested in careers that end up as directors..the pool of available women to even be put into a position to make a film that could be considered award worthy is small. So the chances of a women being nominated is reduced, however its not impossible. This year who would you have removed? All the directors nominated seem to deserve it, so if a woman was added would you really be adding them because you felt it was as good or better or because she is a woman?
The top directors should be put up for the award. As long as the people who chose these nominees believed they picking the best nothing has been done wrong. No person should want to be nominated and awarded because of diversity instead of merit.
There is no easy way to fix this, you can create a female director category but you will have a lot of years where films will have to be nominated that simply wouldn't deserve it.
Forget that. That's like saying everyone gets a participation trophy.
Hollywood's a shill.
I thought this was such an insulting and egomaniacal comment that disrespected the directors nominated that I went back and started counting the gender of the directors she worked with... it was something like 1 female director for every 10 male directors. She's a hypocrite and pathetic.
I found it in poor taste, as well... very disrespectful to the nominees.

Gee, do you think that may have something to do with the fact that only 7% of movie directors are female in the first place?
Gee, it doesn't change the fact she's a hypocrite for not insisting on working with female directors? Maybe she can do something about it instead of just being an attention monger.
"Gee, it doesn't change the fact she's a hypocrite for not insisting on working with female directors?"
Gee, maybe you should think about how the world actually works. Maybe you should, you know, think in general.
There is nothing in her snarky comments that suggests she should have "insisted on working with female directors" and only a knuckle dragging moron would interpret it that way. You need to stop being an idiot and think about how choices are made by actors.
If only 7% of available projects involve female directors, and you are an A-list actor wanting to be involved with popular and prestigious movies, this means the number of female directed films that advance your career are rare. Most of the time, no matter how much you may want to work under a female director, the projects that interest you are going to be handed off to men because of the sexism of the studio system.
Look at how much of the talk leading up to the release of Wonder Woman circled around how much of a "risk" it was to let Patty Jenkins direct the movie. Guys with no blockbuster experience get hired to make big budgeted films all the time without this kind of hand wringing.
The gender of your director is just one factor in deciding which movies to participate in. Stop your foolishness in demanding she make it the only factor in order to avoid being a hypocrite. You obviously don't even know what that word means.
Amen, Cake! I couldn't care less what this bitch thinks.

That was a real piece of shit thing to do. I didn't see it because I can't watch awards shows anymore due to the constant preaching, but I read about it the next day, and it really pissed me off that she would discredit the nominated directors like that. And the fact that all of theses morons were praising her for doing that on twitter was even more of a joke. People suck, that's just all there is to it anymore. Natalie Portman sucks too. Really low class. Those directors didn't ask to be a part of it or pulled into that whole charade, they were just there hoping to be rewarded for their hard work. That is exactly why I'm done with movie awards shows, aka political rallies.
shareAgreed, typical fembarrassing behavior from the spoiled hypocrite. She was gifted an Oscar by the institution then thought it entitled her to turn against it, but now that she's stopped spreading her legs the prime roles have stopped coming in and her always limited abilities have seen her string together nothing but flops when she doesn't have a superior male lead to carry the picture.
shareSomeone needs to ask her ... how many female directors has she worked with in her career spanning almost 50 movies?
Just ONE! She is part of the problem that she is trying to crib about
1 female director in 50 movies
vs
4 female director nominees in 90 academy awards
vs
6 female director nominees in 75 golden globes
She is WORSE than the academy ... and a MASSIVE hypocrite
she is pretty
