Funny how everybody praises her...

...despite almost all her songs being about sex or something sexual.

What's so wrong about that?

reply

No variety. It's like that current singer, I can't remember his name. Every song he comes out with is all club or strip club type music. The guy has no range and I'm sure he's a millionaire.

I've read somewhere around 50 music industry books from most of the top artists and writers. I don't think I've ever come across one that praises her. Many flat out don't like her.

Lisa Robinson formerly of the NY Post based much of her 2014 book on it (dislike) and Nile Rodgers (Chic) dedicated a chapter in his great book to Madonna and he didn't think too much of her either.

Firstly, if that was true, who cares?

Secondly, it’s simply not true.

Everybody - not sexual
Holiday - not sexual
Borderline - not sexual
Lucky Star - not sexual
Material Girl - not sexual
Into the Groove - not sexual
Crazy For You - not sexual
Live to Tell - not sexual
La Isla Bonita - not sexual
True Blue - not sexual
Like a Prayer - not sexual
Express Yourself - not sexual
Cherish - not sexual
Oh Father - not sexual
Frozen - not sexual
Ray of Light - not sexual
Music - not sexual

See a pattern forming here? The only big hits of hers that reference sexuality explicitly would be Burning Up, Like a Virgin, Erotica, maybe Hunan Nature at a stretch although that’s more about backlash from people like you claiming she shouldn’t reference sex in her music or through her image.

I feel you don’t really know much about Madonna at all and seem to be taking an ultra conservative swipe for no particular reason. That’s how it seems, anyway.

reply

I'm not backlashing or hating on her, simply spreading truth. Like a Prayer is very sexual, it's about sucking dick, nothing holy there. It was so awkward when she was doing that song for the Super Bowl. I find it funny how she has people like you convinced she's not a sick weirdo.

THAT'S ONE...IT'S A BIG LIST.

“Like a Prayer is very sexual, it's about sucking dick, nothing holy there.”

Here’s the thing, while that’s definitely a connotation that can be read from the lyrics, it’s actually about a child’s conception of God as a father figure. That it’s written and performed by a notorious tramp makes it all the more subversive in its genius. I’d challenge you to come up with a melody or lyric that could stand as one of the best of the decade.

Also.. I know she’s a sick weirdo. That’s what I love about her.

reply

“Oh Father - not sexual”

Well that’s a relief 😮‍💨

I think it's possible people conflate some of the music videos with the songs.

Music isn't sexual, but the video where she is a female pimp at a female strip club, is.

Like a Prayer is about her witnessing a black man wrongly being accused of rape, but then she has sex with him while hes dressed as Jesus for some reason.

Open your heart, has a video where an under aged kid sneaks in to a peep show, starring her.

Express Yourself is mildly sexual, and open to interpretation, but the video ranges from innuendo to overtly sexual.

Madonna has always used sex appeal to sell her music. The reason why she is mostly praised is that her music itself is pretty clean. Sure there is some stuff that open to interpretation, but there is nothing vulgar like Lil Kim, and female rappers that came after her.

Yeah, any woman who will do that is a weird-o.
