Great list
shareExcellent list. Straight Time is such a great film (have never forgotten the scene where he handcuffs his parole office to the fence near the freeway). Shame it's not better known.
For late period Hoffman, I'd add The Meyerowitz Stories. He was excellent (and infuriating) as Harold.
I think M. Emmet Walsh is one of the best character actors. He got a probation officer down to a tee (is tee the right word? Hah-hah)
I've had probation officers 45 years ago and Walsh was just like them.
He really was one of the best. He made everything he was in better. Good in dramas (Straight Time, Cannery Row, Blood Simple) and comedies (Slap Shot, The Jerk, Fletch). Even did great voiceover work (The Civil War). You don't see many great character actors like him anymore.
Hoffman must've liked working with him because he was also in Midnight Cowboy and Little Big Man.
Shout out to Family Business (1989)....not great, and Connery as his dad was a bit of a stretch, but some good, funny back-and-forth in a few scenes....
