Basically, he heard about the hot mic video of Trump talking about grabbing kitties and said openly that he wanted to punch that guy in the face. De Niro's been going strong ever since. Gotta love a good little hypocritical Hollywood Drone marching to the same TDS beat as everyone else.

A lot of successful people get bored of their wealth and become self-hating Leftists and get mad that other people don't donate as much as they do... so they want legislation to force it out of other people. Not that they donated merely for tax reduction reasons or anything, just because they see themselves as Johnny do-gooder now, plus most of Hollywood is in an absolute bubble and all the cool people at all the parties just bash republicans and "flyover country" as unsophisticated rubes. I know because I have been to some of these parties and known a few actors. A few were even friends of mine at times.
I learned that most actors and comedians are indeed miserable and mentally ill people, even those with lots of money in the bank and giant mansions in the hills. Some are indeed very intelligent, kind and down to Earth (like Ed Harris) and others just barely functional morons who should not be allowed out of the house without someone to show them which way is up. There were some who genuinely understood they had mental problems and were working on themselves though, but even then most of the "self help" community fell into the same kinds of bubbles. "Let's all have a beach meditation in Santa Monica... and then complain about evil DT banning Somalis from traveling here and how scary guns are."
