Nepo Baby
Without her father's connections, she would not be where she is today. And that is just the truth.
shareWithout her father's connections, she would not be where she is today. And that is just the truth.
shareBoth her parents were celebrated actors who helped her get a shot at acting. She's earned her career and any "nepo baby" that has a career has done the same. People are usually going to get a shot at something if their parents were good at it, it's simply a fact of life.
shareI like a lot of her work. My username is taken from one of her films, for goodness sake. And she is talented.
But I do take umbrage when connected like her get prickly whenever anyone points out their privilege, both materially and in terms of automatic access into the industry they chose to pursue.
We call out Trump for going into the 'family business', but what makes the children of Hollywood celebs any better? And don't give me the 'but Trump is a rubbish businessman, and is a multiple bankruptee'. That may be so (FWIW, I loathe Trump), but actors aren't taking the same amounts of risks with anyone's money. That's the studios' jobs, so when an actor fails, as they often do, they're not directly blamed (and let's be honest, most of these actors have had a good number of flops; Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks and Will Smith are rare exceptions of modern actors who've had more hits than flops, without being linked to franchises with ready-made audiences).
When did JLC get prickly about someone pointing out her privilege.
shareShe referred to being a 'Nepo Baby' in a recent speech.
shareYeah she acknowledged it. Didn't deny it. She just didn't accept your half baked complaint that only the children of successful people are allowed to be successful. Or that she was successful only for that reason. It took years of hard work AFTER getting her foot in the door, then being shown back out the door, before she became a success.
She's a prickly person a lot of the time. Even when talking about things and people she endorses.
Deal with it snowflake.
Why should I 'deal with it'?
Are you always so complacent about a system that benefits the children of the rich and powerful, at the expense of the working-classes?
It's not a system, It's just normal human fucking behaviour.
shareNo need to swear.
And I agree, it's just the way things are. Of course parents are going to give their kids whatever help and advantages they can. I'm not judging them or their kids.
I'm just pointing out the reality; not necessarily condemning it.
You're accusing me of complacency.... complicity. Implied that I don't think it is problem, unlike you.
Claimed that "we hate poor white people" and prefer wealthy celebs. Called me a simp for challenging your assumptions and basically false pretenses. Told me to "fucking stop it!".
So fuck you, you clattering fucking cunt of a coward.
I'm not even aware of her really parents assisting her except maybe her mother who, in fact, refused to allow her to be considered for the role of Reagan in the Exorcist.
She was estranged from her father at the start of her career. And he disinherited her.
Nepo Babies don't necessarily get or need any assistance from their well-connected parents, they may already grown up knowing the right people, or people may do them favors or give them jobs because they want something from the famous relative.
And I have to say, Curtis is a better actor than either of her parents!
Yeah. It's not like the financial industry where you have to declare conflict of interest and can't do insider trading based on your knowledge of and relationship with other people in the business.
I think as well that people too easily equate actual success in the entertainment industry as some sort of social reward scheme. Or a benefit that some people unduly draw on more than others based on family.
And without these words your post count would not be where it is today. And that is just the truth. 🦜
