Seems to be a bit of a wanker, no?
Hmmmm......
shareMaybe he is. I have no idea and don't really care. What he does in his personal life and his beliefs are nobody's business.
All I know is that I enjoy many of his movies.
I remember hearing he remembers everyone on the movieset and greets everyone by name, like even the "least important" employees. So probably not much of a wanker tbh.

Right
However crazy his religious beliefs, and however terrible he seems to be to his kids and former wives (the second possibly a result of the first), there's no question that almost everyone who works with him comes away loving the experience
Brad Pitt's a notable exception, apparently because his laid back attitude ran counter to Cruise's obsessive professionalism.
I recall someone who worked in Hollywood crews summarizing their credentials. In their mini-biography, they wrote, "And Tom Cruise once knew my name." I thought that was pretty good. He knew that three-six-whatever months later, Cruise would NOT remember his name, but the movie star made a point of learning it for the shoot. This was also remarkable because other people not nearly as famous or powerful would never bother to learn his name.
Still, I can't help but think underneath the professional smiling and niceness is either a political/self-interested angle and/or a desperate need to be liked. Something about it feels inauthentic.
