Clint Eastwood thinks Tom Cruise is the greatest living actor

"The accolade was revealed by Hollywood director Cameron Crowe, who was talking about a conversation he had with the Dirty Harry legend.

Crowe told website Film School Rejects: "Clint Eastwood said, '100 years from now and more, people will look back on this generation of films, and the guy who will standout more than anyone else will be Tom Cruise.'

"Coming from Clint Eastwood, like, a foot-and-a-half away from you telling you that, I couldn?t wait to tell Tom that.""

Well to be honest, it isn't quite clear if he was really talking about his acting abilities or his status as a star.

In the first case, well, I respectfully disagree. There are so many actors of his and this generation far better. He's not even anywhere near up there.

In the second case, yeah. I would see how this statement makes sense.

He's probably right, guys a great actor and has chosen mostly good roles.

He's a great movie star, but when it comes to complete, transformational acting performances, he can't compete with a Phillip Seymour Hoffman or Jodie Foster.
