Besides the crappy 90s Avengers movie did he ever play a villain?
He sort of plays the antagonist in The Wind and the Lion but he turns out to be not so bad in the end. Any other villain roles besides those?

Action of the Tiger(1957)
Van Johnson was the "tough action star" of this movie, but his leading lady, MartineCarol, told the director "Van Johnson shouldn't be the star of this, it should be the boy..." "the boy" was Sean Connery. I don't think he is a full villain in this one, just drunk and lecherous. The director eventually acted on Martine Carol's suggestion. He was Terrence Young who would go on to direct Sean Connery -- and not Van Johnson -- as James Bond in Dr. No and other Connery Bond films.

Tarzan's Greatest Adventure (1959) Reports are that Connery WAS a flat-out villain in this one. One Connery buff notes that Connery here rather plays the Robert Shaw villain part from From Russia With Love here..versus Tarzan. Though I assume there was no train compartment for Connery and Tarzan to fight in.
