now if they were making edgier gritty pictures more like the cartoon or the Excalibur film, that mighta been something.
Connery would have been a terrible as Gandalf.
I'm happy we got Ian McKellen instead.

Unfortunately, Peter Jackson underwrote the Denethor character and made him out to be an OK-Boomer type of curmudgeon who was only interested in bitching about the predicament of Minas Tirith, but in fact there's a backstory to his madness and eventual demise. He also would feel like he was father to both Boromir and Faramir.
I wish Connery would have more movies in later years.
