Sean's Best, Worst Bonds

Basically, Sean Connery was incredible in his first four Bonds...Dr. No, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball...unbelievable talent, presence.

However, he had very forgettable performances in You Only Live Twice, Diamonds are Forever, and Never Say Never Again. He was okay in You Only Live Twice, but the script was all action and offered him little in the way of acting. Diamonds are Forever was a horrible production and Connery seemed very bored and disengaged. Never Say Never Again was a complete joke - it could have been directed by Ed Wood. Connery at this point was not a convincing Bond...he was frail and soft spoken.

Agree entirely. Biographers point out that he did Never Say Never Again (his wife is credited with coming up with the name after he sued the producers etc and said he would never do a Bond again), purely for the money and it looked like it too.
Dr No will always be a favourite solely because it was the first, but I think he was at his peak as Bond in From Russia with Love and Goldfinger.

Actually, I think Sean was better in Diamonds Are Forever than in Dr. No, even though, that was his big intro.

But, the best Bond films period are From Russia With Love and Goldfinger. And, of course, Sean is the biggest part of their success.

I very much enjoyed Never Say Never again. Good script and Bond in middle age was interesting. Diamonds was the weakest, but still very watchable.

I didn't care for Dr. No. I admit Diamonds are forever was just average in my opinion.

His best Bond performance is Dr. No, and his worst is Never Say Never Again. My favorite Bond film from his era is Thunderball.

I actually thought Connery was quite good in Never say Never Again. It showed a aging Bond who are later in his years.

I think Connery was best in the First three Bond films (Dr No, From Russia with Love and Goldfinger). I am not fond of Thunderball. Jusr seems to have two much going on and they tried to make Bond like a super hero. You Only live twice and Diamonds are forever. I like the films, but I could see why many do not. The two films do have their problems. From Russia with Love is Connery's best Bond film IMO.
