Was in 3 horror movies in 1996.
Scream, The Craft and The Canterville Ghost.
Is she the last true scream queen?
Scream, The Craft and The Canterville Ghost.
Is she the last true scream queen?
I OWN ALL THREE...I LOVE NEVE CAMPBELL...NO CLUE ABOUT THIS SCREAM QUEEN THING.
shareAre you disrespecting our Canadian scream queen?
shareDO YOU KNOW HOW MANY TIMES I HAVE WATCHED THREE TO TANGO?
shareI'm taking about questioning her being a scream queen.
shareSHE DOESN'T SCREAM THAT MUCH...SHE KICKS ASS THOUGH.
shareShe doesn't need to scream. She ain't 'fraid of nothin'. The true mark of a scream queen.
shareMary Elizabeth Winstead
- Final Destination 3 (2006)
- Black Christmas (2006)
- Death Proof (2007)
- The Thing (2011)
- Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (2012)
- 10 Cloverfield Lane (2016)
Jenna Ortega and Mia Goth are forging scream queen status too.
Both Jenna and Mia got potential to be if they are in more horror. Two more who I think have potential are Maika Monroe and Jane Levy.
shareLevy did two flicks with Alvarez (Evil Dead, Don't Breathe) but they had a falling out and I don't think she's done anything else in the genre? I like her a lot and she's only 33 so she still has time but I wouldn't be surprised if she doesn't do any other horror movies.
I like Monroe and she definitely has potential. Was nice to see her in Watcher and Significant Other last year.
Ortega is really leaning into the whole goth princess of hollywood thing. Stuff like Wednesday and Beetlejuice 2 may not be 'horror' but they're gothic works and adjacent to the genre. She's pretty much already certified for me. From what I know she's a big fan of the genre too so is quite likely to 'stick around'.
The list of horror movies she's featured in;
Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013) - non speaking single scene role as a child
The Babysitter: Killer Queen (2020)
Scream (2022)
Studio 666 (2022)
X (2022)
American Carnage (2022)
Scream VI (2023)
(I personally haven't seen The Babysitter, Studio 666 or American Carnage. Though they are horror tagged movies.)
Yeah, I guess you could put Jenna there. I didn't realize she's been in so many.
shareORTEGA WAS MY FIRST THOUGHT...WINSTEAD I DID NOT THINK ABOUT...BUT SHE DOES HAVE QUITE THE HORROR RESUME AT THIS POINT...ALSO THIS ONE THAT I OWN ON DVD...

MEW's had scream queen status (and more importantly HelloSidney1996 crushing on her) since 2006 when she starred in Final Destination 3. It may be sacrilege for many but she's my number 1 scream queen of all time. Many of the other big names got their status largely through repeated appearances in one franchise (JLC in Halloween, NC in Scream). MEW has a diverse resume and very importantly is one of the best actresses out of all the 'scream queens'. FD 3, The Thing and 10CL are three of my favourite movies.
Two others who I really like and wish they'd do more horror work;
Rose Byrne;
28 Weeks Later (2007) and the Insidious franchise.
Rebecca Hall;
The Awakening (2011), The Night House (2020), Resurrection (2022). I haven't seen Dorian Gray (2009) but it's a horror tagged movie and she was in it, she was also in The Gift (2015) which is a very dark thriller and borderline horror.
Ortega most definitely. Chloe Grace Moretz, too.
shareI'd like to shout out Famke Janssen, she had a little 'scream queen' phase in the 90s.
Lord of Illusions (1995)
Deep Rising (1998)
The Faculty (1998)
House on Haunted Hill (1999)
Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters (2013)
Between those movies, her X-Men work and GoldenEye (1995) she's one of my all time favourite actresses.
Let's be honest, she's hot too.
sharePerhaps that's the reason her profile picture looks somewhat shrinked. 🥴
