What are his best roles?

Was surprised to see he's been in 92 different movies. While I don't totally agree with the list I was wondering what people on moviechat considered to be some of his best movies.

I've seen nowhere near close to all of them, but I would say Pig, Mandy, Bringing Out the Dead, and Face/Off were some good performances. I'm a fan of Color Out of Space as well.

Nick Cage has been in so many cult and top favored films, and here are a few that I love, which comes to mind:

The Rock (1996),
Leaving Las Vegas (1995),
Matchstick Men (2005),
The Weather Man (2005), and for some reason I really like
It Could Happen to You (1994).

The Weather Man is an incredibly underrated film. Love that movie.

Undiagnosed early childhood head injury? 😉

I was hit in the head by a baseball bat the year the film came out. So you might be onto something... It would have been cooler if I was knocked back in time to mid-evil King Arthur's Court lol

My fav is Lord of War (05)

Based on the life Viktor Bout, who was eventually caught by US authorities.

Pig
Mandy
Bringing Out the Dead
Face/Off
Raising Arizona
Kick-Ass
Spider-Verse

I thought he was Oscar worthy in Pig and it's definitely my favorite 'serious' film of his.

He had many awesome and funny moments in Kick-Ass as well ('NOW SWITCH TO KRYPTONIIIIIITTTEEEEE!') and Spider-Verse as Spider-Man Noir ('Sometimes I let matches burn down to my fingertips just to feel something. Anything.')

Willy's Wonderland was a lot of fun. I'd say his most unintentionally brilliant role was in The Wicker Man (Nooooo, not the bees!) even if the film completely fails at being a good horror film.

I agree about Wicker Man being good despite what people say. I think people love to shit on Nic Cage because of his over the top performances, but what they don't realize is that there are people that would actually behave that way in real life.

I totally forgot about Kick-Ass. I also agree with that being a strong performance from him. The last scene with him in it was intense.

Agreed, people love to hate on Cage but his over the top performances can be so entertaining.

Yeah, The Wicker Man is just a bonkers screenplay coupled with a bonkers Nicolas Cage performance and it’s unintentional comedy gold at times (‘What’s in the bag? A shark or something?’) but also like you said his performance is also kind of believable. He’s confused, frustrated and anxious going around this island looking for the missing girl and the residents aren’t being helpful at all.

Yeah Kick-Ass has solid performances all around but Cage for me is the standout. Matthew Vaughn knew exactly what he wanted out of Cage’s performance and Cage delivered.

Don’t know if you’ve seen this but it is the best compilation of Cage’s over the top moments on YouTube, it’s very funny.
