Mine is stigmata, I was so obsessed with this movie that i would recored the previews on t.v. then i went and saw the movie, then rented it,then ordered it on PPV and when I was watching it I was recoreding it in tape. then i brought it on DVD! I have probably seen this movie more than 30 times! I'm crazy :)
I have to say my favorite movie is definitely Stigmata, both for the storyline, & for the many incredible shots that she gave the director in many scenes:
My favorite is the nude bathtub scene, right before she's attacked for the first time. She looks so beautiful in that bathtub, & the angle that they chose for that scene was brilliant! Patricia looks sexy & innocent at the same time. It's a classy shot of a gorgeous nude body.
Next I'd have to say the scene on the subway where she receives the whipping across her back. When the movie goes into slow motion, focusing in on the pain she gives us...not just with her face, but with her *entire body*. It gives me shivers every time!
The entire shot from when she's possessed by the dead Priest, (sorry, his name escapes me right now) when she convinces us, & Father Kiernan (Byrne), that she's a harmless - but soul weary - old man who's exhausted by all the writing he's just done over her entire wall. Walking stiffly to her bed to lie down, she begins crying from a deep ache in her heart for which she doesn't yet understand the reason. Then when she awakens from her possession and is completely confounded by her inability to remember how all the writing got on her wall. This leading into her fascinating performance of first trying to seduce Father Kiernan, then her horrific & preternatural anger when he stops her.
Then her most touching scene at the end, when she sees that God is indeed all around her...and she's like an innocent child seeing the world for the first time.
The movie itself was wonderful, with a great story...and I love Gabriel Byrne as an actor. But I do have to say that the scenes I listed above were what *really* made me fall in love with Stigmata. I've thought about it, and I don't believe any other actress could have done better, or even as well, as Patricia Arquette.
I'd be very interested to know what anyone else thinks/has to say about these scenes, if anyone would like to comment.
Thanks for reading!
PS: even tho I know we're supposed to stick to movies, I just have to add that I just adore her in the T.V. Series, Medium. She makes her role as a warm & caring, but still professional woman at work, and a loving mother and wife so believable that sometimes I forget that she's not actually married to Jake Weber! *amusement*
