My personal favorite role of his is The Verdict. I honestly think it is his best performance. My other favorite role of his is Road to Perdition.

I like him as Lew Harper. And prefer the second he played the private investigator in 'The Drowning Pool.' He plays it well hard knock. It's a good mystery set in atmospheric Louisiana.

Lucas Jackson - Cool Hand Luke
Butch Cassidy - Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid
Brick Pollitt - Cat On A Hot Tin Roof
John Rooney - Road To Perdition
Frank Galvin - The Verdict

Doug Roberts in The Towering Inferno is easily his greatest role

Good movie, but that performance is no where near The Hustler, HUD, Cool Hand Luke, The Verdict, The Sting, Road to Perdition, etc.

Honorable mentions to Hombre and Hank Stamper in Sometimes A Great Notion.
Another is Ben Quick in The Long, Hot Summer, which I believe is when and where he met Joanne Woodward.
Aren't very many PN movies that aren't worth your time, although I have been avoiding Quintet.
Plus Reggie in Slap Shot !!
