Movies/TV that have referenced MM.

___Down through the years many TV programs and films have referenced Marilyn in some fashion. Watching an old Clifton Webb movie last night reminded me of this.
1. For Heaven's Sake 1950. While earthly angel Webb plays the harp, the camera scans his very earthly reading materials, including Art Magazine, a cutie magazine that features MM on the cover. The camera does a double take on her. Webb and Monroe were real life friends.
2. I Love Lucy 1951-1960. MM is referenced a handful of times, and Lucy does a parody impression.
3. Unknown army film 50's. A photo from LOTC is uses as a girl back home.
4. Pepe 1960. A LIfE magazine cover from SLIH is used.
5. The Apartment 1960. A girl is pushed to be dated as she lookes just like MM.
6. Dick Van Dyke 1961.laura changes her hair color and MM us referenced twice.
7. A Patch Of Blue 1965. Shelley Winters references MM when talking about her blind daughter.
8. Valley Of The Dolls 1967. Marilyn's voice from the SGTG pool scene in the pool scene of Patty Dukes husbands affair.
___I'm sure there are many others I may not remember or have never seen, anyone else?

___There was also at least one cartoon done where I think her initials were used, MM. And the cartoon character says, "It's her"!

reply

The Seven Year Itch -- her name is mentioned, which seems weird since she was in the movie but yet the character is not identified as MM. So the character is not MM, but yet the real MM is out there in the world somewhere...

___Oh thanks, da that's probably the most obvious and strangely mystifying reference. Can't believe I didn't mention it.

Did anybody mention Forest Gump? When he gets to visit JFK in the white house, he sees a framed picture of her in the bathroom.

____I don't think that's mentioned in the movie section, and that's odd considering what a popular film that was. Wasn't there a Wayne's World movie? I seem to remember Mike Meyers putting a bra over his t-shirt, and singing Happy Birthday, Mr. President to his girlfriend.
___Honestly, this toppic is outrageous. This only looks at two types of media, no fiction, no stage, no radio, etc. Marilyn is truly mythical, just as she was tagged by some journalist back in the 60's.

The Seven Year Itch -- her name is mentioned, which seems weird since she was in the movie but yet the character is not identified as MM. So the character is not MM, but yet the real MM is out there in the world somewhere...

I think that's called "breaking the third wall".
Was interesting the first time I watched the movie in '87 and doubt it's the first director's attempt to make an actor bigger than the character they were playing. But worth another thread somewhere.
Regardless, Billy Wilder pulled a gold one out of his ass that day!
