Why he will burn in hell for all Eternity

Marlon Brando will never be forgiven for being the first truly great actor to be lured into making superhero movies for the massive paychecks they offer. Other great actors like Jack Nicholson, Robert Downey Jr., Kevin Spacey, Michael Caine, and Christian Bale continued this cynical cashgrabbing by talented artists who should know better. Robert Downey Jr. hasn't given a decent performance in a good movie for over a decade.

A lot of people forget he was in Superman. He had a minor role. Your argument would’ve made more sense if he played Superman, not Superman’s deceased father

reply

He's the top-billed actor in the film and famously got a then-unheard of $3.7 million paycheck plus gross points for minimal work. Even Chris Reeve thought he set a bad example for young actors who might have looked up to him.

reply

If you were offered a fortune for a cameo would you turn it down? I wouldn't!

reply

? the money has to go somewhere.

Why not go to talent?

reply

Artists produce better work when they're starving. When they get rich, they give us offal like Phantom Menace or Prometheus.

reply

Yeah, right. Daniel Day Lewis got rich and famous and then went on to just phone it in with Bill the Butcher, Daniel Plainview, and Reynolds Woodcock. Tom Hanks betrayed us - all wealthy and complacent - turning out Michael Sullivan Sr., Carl Hanratty, and James Donovan. And what about Viggo Mortensen? The worst of the bunch using his post Lord of the Rings fame to coast with roles like Nikolai Luzhin, Tom Stall, and Tony Lip.

reply

That's a valid point.

The passion for the art of acting can decrease with age and experience.

A good deal of the greats suffered from Hollywood burnout.

I personally don't put that much stock into the acting performances, I look at more of the story, director, soundtrack...etc etc.

Is ridiculous the kind of standards people pretend to imposse to entertainers (lets be clear actor and musicians in the majority are entertainers not artist) standards they would not put to themself BTW, they think entertainers should live a kind of monastic life without think in money or have materialistic aspirations whatsoever and if they do that make them less talented or less honest in their work

Like people who critizesed John Lennon because he lived in a mansion while composse songs like Imagine, we all are human we all want live a good live and give to our families and childrens a good future, some economical security, that is normal is not something deshonest, and if you can achieve that with something you create what is the problem?

If someone want to pay you 20.000.000 dollars to do your job, you would reject that? besides Super Hero movies also have potential to be great works of entertaiment like The Dark Knight, GOTG, even Iron Man is not a bad movie

Simple silly entertaiment also have value a movie that take you away from reality for two hours and amaze you with good special effects and even make you laugh that is also important and necessary Not every movie have to be a great comentary about society or the human condition

Remember actors are not monks they dont have to live the monastic life you think they should

reply

Yeah right, burn in hell for all eternity for taking a job in a movie that entertained millions.

That’s one drama queen of a God you’ve got there.

Like you’d knock back a $3 million cheque if it was waived under your nose out of artistic principle. Whatever you say!
