My goodness, if we have a Bogart thread siting, we need to talk about this famous man.
I really dislike trying to winnow many great performances into one favorite, so two worth mentioning are To Have and Have Not and The Big Sleep. There are others more obvious.
With a couple of exceptions I like all of the Bogart movies I have seen (30-something, still plenty to go) but my ten favourites would be:
Casablanca
Key Largo
The Treasure of the Sierra Madre
The Roaring Twenties
Beat the Devil
Angels with Dirty Faces
The Maltese Falcon
Dead End
To Have and Have Not
In a Lonely Place
There are a few more that it is not easy to leave out of the list.
The three most well known I would add are The Petrified Forest, The Big Sleep, and The Desperate Hours.
He's a screen magnet, in the right vehicle.
Heck, The Caine Mutiny was one of those He-isn't-sympathetic-but-he-sure-was-memorable roles.
I need to see some of your selections. HB is one of those guys I'd watch any movie he was in, and there aren't many actors I would say this about.
I love The Big Sleep and could have included it on my list on another day.
The Desperate Hours is great fun, too.
I enjoyed The Petrified Forest for Davis and (especially) Bogart's performances - great early role for him - but thought as an overall film it was merely 'good'.
