Tried to like her...

No doubt she was pretty, but I think not my kind of beauty. No doubt a good actress. She was one of my Mom's favorites, so I honestly tried to be into her. But, something was always unappealing to me about her. She always felt like an old woman even when she was young - maybe something in how she moved her body - subtle things about how she moved her body were bothersome. Such a subtle thing as to what appeals to us and what does not. Actually, her looks kind of remind me of Hitler's ideal frau even though she is not German.

She's not a favorite of mine, either; however, I've recently become much more appreciative of her work, especially after watching her in Anastasia, The Inn of the Sixth Happiness and Autumn Sonata. I find her later work to be much more interesting than what she did in the late '30s and the '40s.

As for her beauty, I guess I widely prefer the femme-fatale type, but her face irradiated a certain peace that's amazing and "calming" to look at depending on what your specific mood/state of mind is while watching.
