John singleton became the first black filmmaker to be nominated for an Oscar. He was just 24! Pretty impressive.

It's the 80th anniversary of The Battle of Iwo Jima, one of the bloodiest of WW2. I saw a brief interview with a survivor and veteran. He was only 16 at the time. He must have lied about his age in order to get into the military.

What a great reminder of movie history and the players involved!

John Singleton also directed 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003), a prime example of a lead actor taking the director to the grave with him.
