What did you robots watch this week? (02/02-02/08)

My week:

Tomorrowland (2015 DVD); This was a solid pick for the movie time with the family. The two young girls showed some outstanding acting and the story was pretty interesting. As for the action scenes, they were nothing short of amazing. I do agree that the first 15 minutes were misplaced and would have been more effective later in the film. My rating: 7.5/10

The wild hunt (2009 TV): This Canadian film about LARPing has surprisingly high rating! IMDb: 6.3 Rotten: 82/74. Unfortunately, it didn’t work for me. I didn’t care about the characters/actors, the story was thin and dumb and the worst mistake was having most of the “action” happening at night. This didn’t help considering the fact that the camera work was already mediocre. My rating: 4.5/10

Knights of Badassdom (2013 Tubi): It was fine for what it was. It had a certain charm and the actors mostly made and saved the movie. The gore was cool too. Fun LARPing movie that was okay for one viewing. My rating: 6/10

Beyond the infinite two minutes (2020 Tubi): Clever idea, so-so execution, mediocre acting and too many far-fetched moments. This movie brings up many questions that stands in the way of the goofy fun we’re suppose to have with the loop thingy. Speaking of loop, it was very repetitive too. My ratings 5.5/10

The love witch (2016 Tubi): Another movie that didn’t live up to its great potential. Not that the second half totally ruined it but… almost. Let’s just say that it failed to recapture what made the first half so goood. My rating: 7/10

Homefront (2013 DVD): Held up well on second watch. Doesn’t reinvent the wheel but what it does, it does well. My rating: 7/10

Wishmaster (1997 Prime): First time watch. I had a blast with all the gore and silliness. Much fun to watch with friends . My rating: 7/10

Cold Mountain and Name of the Rose were my two most recent watches. Both excellent, well worth rewatches, especially NOTR.

Cold mountain is most excellent indeed. Haven't seen NOTR.

Ahoy!

I watched:
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023) - My wife makes me watch Marvel stuff with her. I decided to try to enjoy it, but then I realized Adam Warlock is played by the "wait, you guys are getting paid?" meme kid from We're the Millers, and I was done. I couldn't help laughing everytime he was on screen.
Otherwise not a bad movie, I would've been fine with less cutsie animal scenes, but still a 7/10. (Oh wow, it's 7,9 on IMDb!)

One of my favourite movie of 2023. 8/10

Movies

-Hard Ticket to Hawaii (1987)
My mother's a huge fan of The Bold and the Beautiful reruns and since this movie stars Ron Moss (who plays Ridge Forrester in the soap) I suggested we watch this trashy 80s action movie (she's in bed with a broken leg, so she's got nothing better to do). It was a little awkward with all the barebreasted playmates, but this movie was hilariously bad. The acting, the dialogue, the exploding blow-up doll, the cancer-infested killer snake, I definitely recommend it!😆

-Kiss and Tell (1996)
The movie starts out reasonably suspenseful, but after the bad guy is revealed early in the movie, the story becomes stupid, silly and illogical.

TV Show

-Agatha Christie's Poirot - S2-Ep1+2

-Star Trek - marathon
Unfortunately, the show is becoming really repetitive and I'm still in season 1. Similar stories, similar sets.

Ha! Definitely adding Hard Ticket to Hawaii to my list!

Great!👍

Star Trek the original series?

Yes

Season 3 is a chore.

reply

We'll see. I'm planning to watch them all, but it's more of a background kind of thing.

I found the Gunsmoke channel on Roku tv and watched that for 48 hours straight, then I watched the original Crow twice in a row, then Blues Brothers, and then the original True Grit cause it was commercial free on the TCM and I never seen it that way before. And I squeezed the new Bladerunner in there somewhere but I was pretty blacked out by then. And last night I caught the first episode of SNL on tv and I still can't figure out why people thought that sheet is funny. Even the Carlin bits are some of his worst de-fanged material. The last reliable stormy sea has been down, probably for good, so I haven't gotten to see the Gorge yet, which is why I started my party in the first place. Got the last bit of episodes of Cobra Kai coming up, but tonight i'll be watching this 50th anniversary celebration of Pete Davidson.

Good stuff man.

The crow: 9/10
Bladerunner: 4/10

Watching Bladerunner 2049 again right now. Gawd I love this movie. I think it's made for lonely incels.

Had an interesting experience with the crow this time. That's why I watched it twice. I never really loved the end before. 3/4s gothic masterpiece. Then this bizarre Lethal Weapon style buddy cop action ending. But this time, and maybe it's being almost 50 IDK, it really connected with me. I finally felt what I was supposed to be feeling. It was a real rush and I wanted to relive it immediately before I lost the fever. Cause I do that. I kind of blow my nut with a fandom. I get all worked up and love it so hard, and after. I just forget why I ever cared at all.

reply

You seem to be a pretty intense man who loves his movies. Ever thought of watching a movie with us on Fridays or Saturdays?

But yeah, Bladerunner 2049 was a chore and a drag for me to get through. I’m a huge fan of the original though.

reply

Yes, i've thought of that. But i'm not really a sane person that keep schedules.

I ended up watching Bladerunner 3 times. It's definitely front loaded. The back half drags. It could have have cut 30 minutes and still delivered. That flat performance of Gosling is perfect, but also leaves the viewer a little disengaged. I just can't care about this robot. The twist is good, but it was so in the box, you can't enjoy the moments when they're happening. It's a flawed film. But I love the ideas, aesthetic and execution and ideals so much, it's a pass.

Didn't realize this was the same guy doing the new Dune flicks. This is how dude makes movies. He's alright.

He’s french Canadian like me too! ✊

I just threw up in my mouth. (nut busting. ur cool.)

Taffin from 1988 with Pierce Brosnan - 7 out of 10 leprechauns.

Basically the Irish Equalizer and it has a great ending.

It's the movie he made instead of making James Bond - so that's pretty interesting.

reply

Interesting indeed. I wouldn’t watch it, but interesting.

Just curious, how did you view Tomorrowland?

I believe I saw it in the theatres and then on blu-ray, but it was difficult to find, I ended up finding a previously viewed copy at Giant Tiger of all places.

An underrated little gem in my opinion.

reply

If you look next to my titles, I put the year and how I watched it in brackets.(DVD) ;)

reply

Was it difficult for you to find the DVD?

reply

I was lucky enough to find it at the used store for 4$!
