Air Fryers - A Complete Waste Of Time Right?

So Mrs FootOfDavros has finally bowed to what I would describe as peer pressure / keeping up with the Jones purchase and bought an air fryer.

This is despite us already having a massive range master with double oven and a microwave.

It appears to be able to cook chicken wings reasonably well, I'll give it that but all I'm really seeing is a waste of kitchen counter space being taken up by something which can only cook smallish amounts and seems to involve a lot of washing up (compared with a couple of oven trays)...

Anyone here got one of these? And if so, does it get regular usage still? Or is this going the way of bread makers, pasta makers, etc in the end to be relegated to the back of a cupboard / the shed eventually?

About 5 years ago I won an airfryer in a contest from a local grocery on Facebook. It's great and I use it regularly still today maybe once or twice a month. You can cook just about any frozen food in it. Wings, chicken strips or pizza rolls are great. My favorite is cooking hot dogs in the air fryer. They taste like they are right off the charcoal grill. Do a little online research and you can find tons of recipes.

Interesting. Will give that a try...

I have a box of omaha steak hot dogs in the freezer and they have air fryer instructions on the box. Thaw the hot dogs, set your air fryer to 380 degrees and cook for 5-6 minutes. Amazing!!🌭

I like my air fryer a lot and it does get regular use. It is a great complement to a microwave because a microwave can't get things crispy the way an air fryer can. Frozen french fries is the most obvious example.

I forgot to say in the OP that our microwave is already a combi thing which already has a convection oven... Just saying because I said to the missus that I think that means we could pretty much have been crisping up in there if not using main ovens.

I got that instant pot/air fryer combo thing. For a few years now. Literally gets used every day, sometimes two or three times a day. It's become my go-to appliance in the kitchen. It only does a few fryer things better than the oil fryer does, but I can't stand the stink of the oil fryer, it ain't worth the yummy food. House stinks for days and it sometimes it don't come out of your clothes ever. But some stuff, like a proper seafood fish fry, can only be done with hot oil and I got a whole special outfit of expendable clothes I wear for that.

I use my air fryer quite a bit. I use it for the fun "fried" foods. But I've cooked a whole chicken in mine. I also like to do steak, and pork chops. I've done most of my veggies. I did some really tasty brussels sprouts recently.

Do I need my air fryer? Probably not, but it is quicker than heating up my oven.

We got one recently and it doesn't get used much and seems like a pain in the ass to clean it. I have yet to use it myself.

Signed, million man.

They save you time...but they can cause cancer.

Really? Have a link?

I've considered buying one so I read this thread with interest. Cooking without the oil sounds super healthy. It seems you've had a bad experience with it, but others on the thread use it successfully.

The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

I'm more a second mouse kinda guy and I held off getting an air fryer and only bowed to pressure a year ago.

I should have been the early bird when it comes to air fryer....I've never looked back.

It's great for...Sausages, Burgers, Fish, Chips (fries), Pizza and loads more.

I can see it being useful for smaller items than sausages & burgers. But then, our range cooker has a grill as well, so for me that just seems like another double up.

Although, if it does burgers without so much smoke / smell maybe...
