What did you lumberjacks watch this week? (01/19-01/25)
My week:
Heretic (2024): This dialogue driven psychological horror kept me engaged the whole way through and the performances were great. It tackles many aspects of religion, beliefs and faith yet it never truly picks a definitive side but leave it to us, the viewer, to decide what really happens in the end. Very well done. My rating: 7.5/10
Twilight of the warriors: Walled in (2024 Prime): First off, the settings were amazing! The action was entertaining but often too silly to take seriously. The story, although lacking originality, was somewhat heartfelt and nuanced enough that it made for a good time. As Rottentomatoe’s consensus says: “An action-packed homage that nails the nitty-gritty choreo-crazed daze of '80s Hong Kong cinema to masterful effect.” My rating: 7/10
Tammy and the T-Rex (1994 Tubi): This movie was basically tailor made to appeal to my tastes. The cast, the dialogue, the humour, the kills… everything was on point. Plus Denise, oh Denise. 🌹 My rating: 7/10
Alone in the dark (2005 Tubi): Not bad! Not bad at all. Has enough flair and dedication to make it work even if I was lost at times. People were way harsh on this. My rating: 5.5/10
Studio 666 (2022 Tubi): Bloody, not very funny, well shot with many daylights scenes and daylight kills (I love that) and filled with good guitar riffs, that was well with a watch. My rating: 6/10
Brawl in cell block 99 (2017 DVD): I was meaning to rewatch that one and I’m glad I did. I remembered it was very violent, very blue and very depressing but many times I thought to myself “oh yeah, this scene, I had forgotten it was in this movie.” One thing though, I have to say they didn’t have the best looking mannequins FX. My rating: 7.5/10
