Are your local shoping malls still busy?

Some of them are, but not all. One mall near me is almost dead except for its food court.

I'm probably not much help on this one because I've only been to our local mall about three times in the past 15 years, but if my drop in attendance is any indication, maybe others don't go as often either. With the dawn of online shopping my in-person shopping has almost completely ended.

That's understandable.

I went to the mall a few weeks ago, and it was somewhat busy, but it felt different from malls in the 90s when I was a kid. Back then, malls were full of people who often came to hang out and window shop, not just to visit specific stores or buy specific items. They were more like a community gathering place AND a place to buy things back in the day, but now they seem to be solely a shopping destination.

Yeah, I read that social media and online apps have replaced malls as the space for socialization....

I notice the Elderly love to walk the Malls and is good exercise for them. They do it every morning before the stores open for business

The nearest was thirty miles away. One was converted into individual stores and the other was partly demolished but I think they're doing something with the remaining part of the building.

we have 3 malls in my city. 2 are dead and the other one is slowly being phased out.

Most of the shopping malls in my state are fairly busy. Big exception is Monmouth Mall which is being taken down. They are going to turn it into an outdoor shopping area with an apartment building right in the middle of it. Rumor is the company doing the work was given the contract as a political favor.

I live in St.Louis MO and we have 2 Malls left. Chesterfield Mall is scheduled to be demolished soon and is now closed after 50 Years!! The only one left really is West County Mall which is sort of a high end Mall that still gets business

Here in town there are 4 malls, one on each side of town a bit outside.
All of these depend on what's called an "anchor store" meaning at least one store where many people will go no matter whether it's in a mall or not, because those draw in customers who will then also look around in the smaller stores in the mall.
Two of the malls in town have recently lost their last anchor store because rent in the mall was too high and the former anchor stores found it cheaper building independent stores not far away from the mall.
The small shops in those two malls are closing one after the other because they don't get customers anymore, it's predictable those malls will be totally empty soon.

Beyond the scope of a mall, they have built a few decades ago an entire "shopping village" a half hour drive outside of town, literally nothing but shops with a few restaurants in between.
There used to be all kind of shops in that village, but by now it's exclusively the most expensive high end trademarks, 90% clothes, because no other shop can afford the rent in that village from the relatively small amount of customers they get.
