Movie Chat vs old IMDB forums.

I appreciate that Movie Chat took over the IMDB forums when they closed down, but to be honest, they are becoming pretty boring in the last years. In the past I always went to the IMDB forums after watching every movie because there you would find most of the times good discussions about the movie itself, details you might have missed, theories, etc. Nowadays for almost every new movie that comes out most of the discussion is about how woke the movie is. And in the eyes of the chatters, almost everything is woke. If there is a non white person, woke, if there is a female in a significative role, woke, if there are gays, woke, if there are poor people fighting for their rights, woke, if there is a woman with short hair, woke, there is someone with a non-Christian religion, woke, and so on.

I myself was a little bit tired of extreme inclusion, etc, but it seems that the "cure" is worse, it is like we moved from one extreme to the other one. And the current one is much more annoying than the one before.

TRY POSTING ABOUT MOVIES....THAT MIGHT HELP🤔🙂

Your analysis is pretty spot-on. Yes we have indeed shifted from low-inclusion to over-saturation, to the point where it does scream woke. Everything in moderation is the secret to life.

I too miss the IMDB boards, which were very active, and minus a few trolls, fairly entertaining and informative. The equivalent now is Reddit, but I can't stand the format over there, and it's almost TOO busy.

Someone here mentioned that IMDB had 200k forum users. I bet MC has

You are free to make quality or what you perceive to be quality posts about whatever movie you want.

And on a site that seems to respect freedom of speech more than almost every other site.

Things have gotten more sanitized over the last 10 years which has mostly killed my appetite for new movies. One thing I like with moviechat now is the general chat room.

One thing I'll add is that older movies were supposed to be an escape from regular television but new movies seem to be no better than what you can squeeze out of streaming..

"Nowadays for almost every new movie that comes out most of the discussion is about how woke the movie is."

I believe that you are exaggerating. There might be a few examples (such as Ghostbusters [2016]), but "almost every new movie"? If you were to say that, for almost every new movie, there is at least one thread about how "woke" the movie is, that would probably be true.

I was a regular on Seinfeld and Upstairs, Downstairs IMDb boards. There has been nothing like them in terms of participation and activity. Oh well, all good things...

There are a number of places I chat, and things like you mentioned (among other things) only makes me post less here. Sometimes I'll paste whatever I typed elsewhere, but I notice more and more posts about movies I'm interested receive less attention, so the tastes might be changing here.

This can be remedied by you by making lots of posts that don’t mention the ‘w’ word.
