Metal and heavy metal are not the kind of music that I like.

Honestly, they're getting more hate here than I thought they would.

reply

I’m frankly very surprised!
Metallica exists to kick ass.

good live band who's never been recorded well. liked them a lot more as a teenager. hardly ever listen to them anymore. their best music is their covers which says a lot about what kind of band they are. the best house band on the planet.

They have a few songs that I like well enough to have in my music folder (though none of them are among my all-time favorite songs), but I find most of their songs to be overly long and tedious. Also, unlike Dave Mustaine's vocals, I don't think James Hetfield's vocals are particularly good and/or interesting in any way. He's one of the most generic sounding rock or metal vocalists I can think of.

The problem with most metal bands (including Metallica) starting in the mid-1980s is they were less interested in writing songs and captivating material, and more interested in creating that dull, leaden, tediously repetitive "sound". Every band watched the exact same horror movies and started sounding interchangeably the same as everyone else. It was the audio equivalent of a temper tantrum in hi-def sound. Metallica, after establishing their sound on the first two albums, has just relentlessly done the same Spinal Tap thing over and over again. I say all this as someone who actually enjoys music on the heavier end of the spectrum.

Overrated, all the bands I know about on that list ahead of them are better

Probably one of the most overrated bands of all time in my opinion.
