Alien-Like Signal From 2023 Has Been Decoded.

"The next step is to figure out what it means."

https://www.yahoo.com/news/alien-signal-2023-decoded-next-142332419.html

"After the ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter, a European Space Agency spacecraft orbiting Mars, beamed a signal containing an alien-like message in May 2023, three observatories on Earth picked it up and released the raw data on the internet, giving citizen scientists across the globe a chance to decipher the transmission."

Unless I'm missing something, this sounds like a big nothing-burger.

"If Earth’s astronomical observatories were to pick up a signal from outer space, it would require an all-hands-on-deck effort to untangle and decipher the extraterrestrial message."

"An art project from the SETI Institute, a nonprofit in Mountain View, California, devoted to searching for life beyond Earth, simulated that scenario over a year ago before a father-daughter team of citizen scientists recently deciphered the message."

reply

SETI has been searching for ET signal for 40 years and hasn't found anything so they decided to fake one. Mildly interesting technical experiment. I'm surprised ESA agreed to send the fake signal from their space probe.

reply

It read "Send more Gilligan's Island."

reply

Who's going to break it to them that it was cancelled after only three seasons? And the people responsible have been dead for years!

reply

Make them totally submissive by sending them I Dream of Jeannie.

reply

It read "Ben Gazzara is a good actor, why can't he get a series?"

reply

Didn't he have a nighttime soap, Dr. Something or Other? You can't get much higher in the acting echelon than that.

reply

What I find interesting, and I think this has also been pointed out elsewhere, is that the signals they are receiving take time to get there, so their view of us is several years (or more) old. Moreover, for all that we imagine how advanced they must be, I believe they are only about 6 weeks ahead of us.

reply

"Drink Your Ovaltine."

On these matters, always bet on the big nothing burger.

reply

Probably a list of things to do from my wife.

reply

HHmmm, does somebody need funding? Or is someone at risk of losing funding?

Pretty cynical but indeed - seems you always find out later it was something human being related that had nothing to do with aliens.

reply

twas a fake message for fun
