The Road Warrior (USA) aka Mad Max 2
Did the Road Warrior do better or worse at the box office because it wasn't named Mad Max 2 ?
Is it more remembered or forgotten because it was called The Road Warrior ?

Better. For most in the US, TRW was their introduction to the character.

In the USA, The Road Warrior did better at the box office than Mad Max. Indeed, they decided to rename it The Road Warrior in the USA precisely because Mad Max wasn't particularly well-known there. It's one of those films that grew a cult following over time thanks to cable and VHS.
However, Mad Max seems to have done better at the box office globally than Mad Max 2: According to Wikipedia, $100m and $36m respectively. And for a long time the first film held the record as the most profitable film ever made (because its budget was tiny).
Good answer!
shareThis came out in 1982 I believe, so I can't recall how well it did, but it was better received than the current MAD MAX movies without Max in them
