Why are they so close to a cliff?

reply

Because Harry Webb was behind the camera

reply

Legit, he's creepy looking now.

This is only somewhat related but even though orangutan is spelled orangu-tan I pronounce it orangu-tang and honestly will not tolerate any other pronunciation.

reply

And I would say orang-ah-tang. Rolls off the tongue better.

Actually that's how I say it, too. I was so busy focusing on the fourth syllable that I completely neglected the third one. You say it right so we can continue being friends.

Orangutan is Indonesian for ‘man of the forest’ (Linguistic Andy).

Thanks. 🙂 Good to know. I recently read an article about an orangutan who treated and healed a hurt place on its face with some sort of plant. The researcher observing it was quite impressed with its ability to treat itself medically. They are quite bright and I suspect they, too, know how to pronounce their names correctly.

I was at a safari park in Indonesia and our guide said don’t make eye contact, he doesn’t like it. Well, as soon as someone tells me not to do something, I do the opposite.

Within a short time the orangutan was throwing faeces at me and I was hiding behind a tree.

What’s even funnier was I returned a few years later with my young daughter. As soon as he saw me, he remembered me and started throwing shit at me again, which my wife and daughter found hilarious.

reply

That reminds me of the line in Jurassic Park about the velociraptors. "They remember."

reply

They do……

reply

They otter know better.

reply
