Would you consider this saying racist?

"The more White customers who frequent a Chinese restaurant, the more bland the food is."

I've heard this before - yes, it's a variation of the "white bread" jokes. I admit it's somewhat funny but then again I'm not White anyway. I also don't think it's true either - I've been to Chinese cuisine restaurants that had good food in my opinion and they also had many White customers (or I just have bad taste, hehe....)

KiwiJim and capuchin, I think you both have good points about how the saying just comments about the authenticity of the food.

Overall, thank you all for the input!

reply

That’s total bullshit, if it were referring to the authenticity of the food there would be no reason to specify white people, it would apply to any race. It’s referring to a specific stereotype about white people.

It’s like saying the more black people that go in there, the more it smells like fried chicken and watermelon, but it’s not racist, I’m talking about the authenticity of the food!

reply

I consider it an "ethnic joke".

All ethnic jokes are a little racist and tasteless. I grew up on Howard Stern, Joan Rivers, Don Rickles, All in the Family and other edgy insult humor so it doesn't bother me, but younger generations find them offensive.

reply

Yes, that's racist.

Wtf is the "white bread" joke?

reply

I don’t think this applies at all to the restaurants where I live.
