October 31: Squirrel Awareness Month ends today!!!

While being aware of squirrels can never really be limited to any one particular time, we must now acknowledge the final day of Squirrel Awareness Month, 2024. For myself, it was a VERY successful month, as I kept a running count, and as of today I have been aware of 96 squirrels in October. (Of course, the day's not over yet!) This is your opportunity to share your squirrel stories from this last month, and let's keep them positive and uplifting. I naturally do not mean any disrespect toward those who may have had traumatic experiences with squirrels, and I hope the day will someday arrive when these excessively cute creatures will regain your interest and favor.

So until next January 21st (Squirrel Appreciation Day), continue keeping an eye out for these adorable rodents, and have a lot of fun doing so!

It really is a balm to the soul to know that there is a Squirrel Awareness Month. Without it, knowledge of their existence would be questionable.

I have two squirrel feeders in my backyard, one on either side attached to my fence. I've seen positive reviews on Squeak (the squirrel version of Yelp) for my backyard restaurants. It's kind of a source of pride. It also keeps them from beheading my sunflowers.

Here's a picture of a squirrel dining in one of my restaurants from a Squeak post.

Thank you for sharing this this!

I was unaware of Squeak, but I am familiar with thesquirrelboard.com. They have 9,477 members!

It's just a local squirrel restaurant review forum for those squirrels who took a computer course at the neighborhood rec center.

I would say that your link proves that there's something on the Internet for everyone!

I am also aware of squirrels.

Earlier in the year, I got up one morning to find some half skinned, horror show scene in the garden. Had no idea what it was until spinning it around with a shovel revealed it to be one of our rodent friends.

At the moment, I seem to have one as a kind of nemesis to my attempts to fix up the lawn. We moved into our place last year and the garden was a bit crappy. Spent a lot of time digging bits up and reseeding.

But now I have a squirrel ๐Ÿฟ๏ธ which seems hellbent on undoing my good work by digging it all up!

Had to pick up our lazily dozing cat ๐Ÿ˜บ the other day and chuck him out the door to chase after the blighter! I fear the whole situation will descend into something Caddyshack-esque...
