5/10. Don't hate it, but it doesn't do anything for me either. So average.
shareOk, this is all of the top of my head.
I believe this track is from 1991. Unfortunately, it's got the same vibe today as the majority of MJ's music - it sounds old, dated. His shrieks sound ridiculous. The rap in the middle is absurd.
Fair at best 5/10
Interestingly enough, upon return from the grocery store, I heard Janet's "Nasty" which I think is from 1986. Now that one has got some groove to it - still sounds great.
6/10 only because it has a peppy and enjoyable beat to it. But I really don't like any Michael Jackson songs after the Thriller album. Thriller and before are another story. They're primo excellence.
shareI concur. He started to lose his edge in the 90s even without the child molestation allegations. His music started to sound outdated at that point with rise of Nivana and grunge.

For my own amusement, I've been sifting thru MJ tracks. I agree, there isn't much there after "Thriller". Especially "Bad" - OMG, every track sounds absurd - horribly overproduced. It's like bad 1980s music. Anyway, Michael has a couple of timeless tracks. His best work, IMO...

This one put a smile on my face....

This one had me grooving, it's actually a Jackson 5 track. Notice what some forget about MJ - how he moves. I think he was the most exciting, greatest dancer - of my era anyway....

For fun, if anyone wishes, do any MJ tracks turn you on today???
Billie Jean was my first introduction to Michael Jackson when I was probably in about the 6th grade and because it's such a good song and also so nostalgic to me it is probably my favorite of his. The other two songs you shared are also divine. Here are two slow ones and two fast ones that I love (solo or with his brothers).
Slow:

Good stuff....
Found another one that has me grooving today....
You get the full effect with this one. I've never seen anyone in my life that could move like MJ. The greatest in his day (IMO).

PS - watching it again, grooving track - still sounds great
Another excellent one.
I would go so far as to say that he was not just the greatest in his day but as far as dancing and performing in general he was the greatest ever. And I've seen old clips of those great dancers back in the 30s and 40s and I also know there are a lot of amazing performers/showmen out there including my beloved Freddie Mercury, but I'd still put Michael at the top.
Yeah, see. Exactly, from our day - the only one close was probably Prince - in terms of dancing and performing ability. Someone like Madonna, IMO, not even in the same universe as those two.
Anyway, yeah, sounds like you've taken a good look at the classic dancers.
I know the names, Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, Ginger Rogers, Bob Fosse, etc. Haven't studied them though. I'll take your word on it - you have a good eye and ear.
Freddie, incredible vocalist and showman. Now him yes, I've seen a million times.
No one gets me going though like MJ in his prime. This study we've done today makes me want to go out and groove!
Prince was a better musician since I don't think Michael did much in terms of playing instruments, but I think Michael was a better dancer. Both had great voices though I would say Michael edged out Prince.
I think I've already introduced this group to you but here's another song by BTS- one of the very few post-2000 groups I fell in love with and this was the first song of theirs I ever heard. It has a Michael Jackson Vibe for sure which is what drew me to it.

Of course wouldn't you know it, I finally fell in love with a post-2000 group and they immediately disbanded to join the South Korean military. π
Yeah speaking of which - check out the track I just posted.
Yeah, you could say Prince was more talented because he did everything, including playing instruments. MJ in his prime is more exciting to watch though - so one tends to agree with you.
OK, I listened to your track...
Definitely an MJ vibe but must say, seemed like a cheap imitation to me.
Thank you anyway for posting it.
Yes Michael Jackson will be imitated a lot but never duplicated.
shareI'm on full throttle with the tunes today, LOL
If you search, you can find 1980s music that still sounds great.
Isn't this fun???? Check it out.....

Oh yeah, anything from Purple Rain is top tier music. I played it so many times in the car that my barely starting to talk toddler started saying "dearly beloved" from the back seat before Let's Go Crazy. π
shareYeah, now I'm digging into Prince.
Found a couple - not as well known, I think both sound great, I mean like right now.
This is what one loves to do with music, like others do with wine. The music stayed the same, but the times changed, you changed - how does it sound to you almost 40 years later??? You know, like people judge wine. It's fun to do, IMO (with music I mean, LOL).
ANyway, two grooving tracks from Prince both around 40 years old now....

Great stuff, sounds alive and funky. Fresh. What do you think?????
Great songs indeed! Prince's songs are much flirtier than Michael Jackson's. Both Prince and Michael Jackson have many songs that will stand the test of time.
I've enjoyed our music chat! I have to run now, have a friend coming over. Have a nice rest of your day! π
Funny you say that, I'm on my way out, too.
Yeah, great taking a trip down music memory lane.
Nice chatting with you today, I'm sure we'll chat again...
Have fun!
There's a pretty good, 7.5, 3-minute song in there.
As is, 6/10
6/10 This is lower tier MJ for sure.
share8/10
shareA monochromed 7/10.
